I was a bit nervous about eating at Platters.. the reviews weren't great (although they were a few years old) but my colleague wanted to eat there.. so I was going! Platters was established in 1980 and is right on the harbour front; so surely the best seafood you can get!?
I stuck to 1 course (the prices seemed high) and I went for the lemon sole which came with chips and a side salad. My colleague went for the clam chowder and then the platters 3 fish main.
All portions were large! 3 fillets of lemon sole and a mountain of chips. The clam chowder looked like a meal in itself and came with lots of bread. The fish was tasty, although a bit over cooked I felt. The chips were good and the home made tatar sauce was a winner! Dinner for 2 with soft drinks came to £46. I'm not sure it was worth that much but it was a good sizeable meal. Service was ok but maybe didn't match the price. Perfectly cooked fish and it would have got the 5 stars from me!

I was recommended to visit here as I was told it was the best Fish and Chip Restaurant on the Barbican, unfortunately I cannot agree.

It was full when we called but the waiter told us to pop to the Dolphin pub a couple of doors away and he would pop in when a table was available, and sure enough he did.

The table we sat at didn't have enough room to get my fuller figure between the table and seat however I did manage to squeeze in, both the table and bench were fixed to the floor. I know I could do to loose a pound or two but this place was a joke.

I ordered Fish and Chips which were OK but I can assure you we can do a lot better up here in East Yorkshire, and as for the Fish Pie my partner had she had to send it back the first time as the mash was cold even after it came back she wasn't over impressed.

My advice is keep walking past !!!

A very reasonable lunch menu (6-10 pounds), and as I always follow the give me your freshest plate of fish you have rule, you really can't go wrong.

Though I wouldn't come here for dinner, the proper menu prices are not reasonable given the commonplace position of this restaurant, but I'm sure their is a rent to match given dockside location. Shame as the monkfish dish advertised is what originally enticed me but 18 pounds it is slightly too expensive.

They passed me grilled sardines in the end, which were indeed fresh and brought in from the sea that morning, served w bread and chips (w a nice homemade chunky tartare sauce which only went on the chips as sardines were lovely as is), topped off with glass of white wine I was plenty happy and the rest of the families around me seemed to also appreciate the reasonably priced lunch menu and enjoyable atmosphere. 3 and a half stars for lunch.

Understated venue but fantastic food. Service excellent. Chips...too many!

One of many fish and chip shops on the Barbican, certainly not the best, the best thing is the service, staff are usually quite friendly, and chips are not bad, but nothing special.

I think the fish is sourced locally, which is good, but it doesnt really make up for less than wonderful food.

Overall, not a bad place to grab some chips while on the barbican, but certainly there are better places.
